The News 5 Love is in the Air contest has a winner. The votes were tallied on our website, KHASTV.com and their story won the hearts of our viewers.

Meet Tom and Lisa Hatfield whose 30 year love story started at a bus stop in Denver.

Jeniffer Berry: Tell us a little more. Why are you "lucky in love?"

Tom Hatfield: It was a fluke. She normally wouldn't have been at the bus stop. Her sister would have given her a ride home as opposed to being on the bus. My car had broken down. There we were. I ended up helping her off the bus. The bus driver locked me off the bus. It was the last bus. So I ended up helping her go home and the rest is history.

Jeniffer: You met in 1985 and got married in 1993. What is your secret to success with love? Everyone wants to know.

Colin Murphy: Yes, I'm taking notes.

Tom: There is no real success. You just gotta want to do it. Everyday. It's not easy. It's not fun, but it's there.

Colin: Eight. Is that correct, eight grandchildren?

Tom: Yes, eight.

Colin: Unbelievable. And they're all eight and under. So they got a few more years to stay busy.

Jeniffer: It was quite a Valentine's Day surprise for Lisa, of course. Well, congratulations to the two of you. Thank you for sharing your story with us and Happy Valentine's Day!

According to video security, Thursday morning about 3:50 am two men walked into the parking lot of the Boulevard Place apartments and stole the car of Justin and Amanda Clark. Justin and Amanda are just moving in and their car was full of everything they will need for the baby they are expecting next month. The car is not insured for theft, and Justin broke his leg on Easter and so has not been able to work. Amanda and her family began a facebook campaign to find the culprits. Amanda's grandmother, the owner the apartment complex, offered a reward for the arrest and conviction of the thiefs. Amanda and her sisters began asking everyone on FB for information. Finally someone had heard someone bragging about stealing the car, and going to Omaha with it to sell drugs and so a fake drug deal was arranged in Grand Island where the Grand Island police met the thiefs and arrested them. I'm sure I don't know all the correct details but if this is an interesting story to you I'm sure a good reporter could talk to the right people and get the story straight.

There's an old joke, "vote early and vote often". Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity is taking that statement to heart with its new Mr. Habitat competition.

Six volunteers are competing for the title of Mr. Habitat. This tongue-in-cheek competition is helping raise funds for the affiliate and providing entertainment for an upcoming event.

The way it works is that people will vote for their favorite contestant by buying votes. For every dollar given in a contestant's name, a vote will be assigned. Votes may be sent to Habitat at P.O. Box 1001, Grand Island, NE 68802, or brought to the office at 410 W. 2nd St. #6.

Competing in this inaugural event are:
Amos Anson (FAmos Construction), Jerry Bremer (Ag Services), Travis Hasselmann (Bosselman Corp), Chad Nelson (Union Bank), Jeremy Vlcek (Vlcek Gardens) and Herb Worthington (retired/Financial Planner).

To learn more about the contestants, become a fan of Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity on Facebook.

Each will don their versions of formal and beach wear, as well as share a unique talent at an upcoming event. At the event, the votes will be tallied and the winner announced.

All proceeds help improve housing situations in partnership with low-income families in the area. Habitat works to give a hand up, through no interest loans and volunteer assistance.

On Saturday, a family met in Grand Island to work on a Habitat for Humanity home. Coming from as far as Kearney and Norfolk, the Dobbe-Cure family spent their day helping build the latest home sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

As Lutherans, the Dobbes and the Cures used this Habitat mission project to fulfill two things. They participated in a Lutheran sponsored project and took the opportunity to celebrate two family birthdays together.

Patriarch, Jim Dobbe, also used the opportunity to learn some new skills. "I want to see how to do this," he said while working on installing soffitt.

Daughters Megan and Mikala had a hard time tearing their dad away for his surprise birthday party.

In spite of the terrible heat, Dobbe said, "This has been great. I'll be back."

The Thrivent Builds home is sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, with volunteer support from area Lutherans. This is the fourth project in the Grand Island Area. Thrivent Builds is a mission outreach, helping low-income people in the United States and third world countries.

For more information about this partnership between Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity, call 308-385-5510 or e-mail gihfh@yahoo.com.

Ayr was one of the areas hit hard. Ayr is located 10 miles south of Hastings. The grain bins at the Ayr elevator are toppled over like toys. Big beautiful cottonwood trees at Crystal Lake are no longer provided beauty and shade. Crystal Lake is located 1 mile north of Ayr. The first storm rolled through with 3 more smaller storms providing more rain. This has caused the Little Blue River to rise and pose a threat to Ayr and Crystal lake with flooding.
